Attendance

At Penygawsi School we believe that regular attendance and arriving on time are absolutely vital — not just for academic progress, but for your child’s overall development and wellbeing. Time spent each school day in class gives pupils the best chance to build the literacy, numeracy, and communication skills they need to flourish under the Curriculum for Wales. When children miss school — even just occasional days — they miss lessons, vital instructions, and opportunities for discussion; over time these gaps add up, making it much harder to keep up with their peers. Punctuality is equally important. Arriving late can disrupt learning and quickly adds up to significant time lost across the year. Regular attendance also supports children’s social and emotional development, helping them feel part of the school community and benefit from the full breadth of school life. In line with guidance from Welsh Government and Rhondda Cynon Taf, we work closely with families to promote good attendance, and this year our whole-school target is 95%. By working together, we can ensure every child enjoys the consistency, security, and opportunity they need to thrive.
