Eisteddfod Music Competition
As part of our Eisteddfod competitions in school, this year we have decided to celebrate the musical talents of the children in our school. We will be holding auditions for each musical instrument category during Wythnos Cymraeg next week (Week Beginning 17th February). These auditions will be held during lunchtimes or breaktimes, depending on the number of pupils auditioning. This will be a competition that is not practised within class/school, but gives children who have lessons and are learning to play instruments outside of school to showcase their talents and progress. We welcome singing as a talent too, however, please be mindful this will only include pupils who currently have singing lessons with a music teacher. Could you please discuss with your child whether they would be interested in entering these competitions? They will need to play/sing a piece of music to a small audience initially, with the winner from each category then being required to play/sing the same piece of music to the whole school, during our Eisteddfod celebrations after half term. If your child would like to compete within any of these competitions, please ensure they come and see us to register their name by Wednesday 12th February, at the very latest. Any names given after this date, will not be able to enter.
We cannot wait to see your performances!

Number Day
Thursday February 6th 2025
To celebrate the wonderful world of maths, we are having a day dedicated to number. The children are invited to wear non-uniform and to design and make their very own number hat to wear to school on the day. Be as creative as possible. We will have a parade for everyone to see each other's mathematical masterpieces. There will be a small prize for the most imaginative design in each class. Get those creative juices flowing.
If you need a little inspiration, take a look at some of the ideas below.
We are looking forward to fun day of number and getting our mathematical minds working. The children will take part in lots of activities where they can use previously taught skills and learn new skills too.
We would love to invite some of our parents who work with numbers on a daily basis as part of their job role in to talk to the children during the day. A parent questionnaire has been sent via text. If you could take the time to complete it, we would be very grateful. Click on the link below if you haven't already completed it.

Welcome back Yr Wyddfa!
I am very excited to see all your faces on Tuesday and catch up with you all about what you have been up to since we last saw each other. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas and have had time to relax and enjoy the holidays. It's going to be so much fun seeing you again and getting started with our new topic; it is going to be another fun and exciting term full of lots of adventures and experiences.
This term our topic is Expressive Arts; focusing on film and digital media. I am a big believer in allowing the pupils the opportunity to lead their own learning, so this week we are going to map out our ideas and plan the term ahead together. We will keep you posted with what we decide!
Small Reminders:
PE will continue to take place on a Tuesday - starting on the 14th January. Please wear appropriate kit to school.
Pupils to be dropped off and collected at the same location as last year.
Homework will remain on a Wednesday.
Swimming has finished for Year 5 and 6 so you do not need your swimming kits on a Monday any more.
Can all books and diaries be brought back to school this week so that they can be changed after having them for the holidays. Pupils are to bring their reading diaries to school every day.
Spelling lists will be re-assessed this week and if pupils move up a level the new list will come home with them by the end of the week.

There will be an opportunity to collect any remaining Christmas items at pick up this Tuesday (12th) from the area by the school office. If you aren't able to make it, please don't worry - items will be sent home with the children later this week.
We are still awaiting delivery of the teddies and coasters, but will keep you updated on arrival.
If you missed out on ordering, our shop will re-open this Friday (15th), and will remain open until midday on the 24th November. Following this, there will be no further opportunities to order. If you have any questions, please contact the PTA on pta25@hwbcymru.net
Here's to a busy week Year 6 with Remembrance assembly, concert practise and lots of fun-filled activities planned. I need you to remain focused and stay on task rather than chatting with your friends. Chatting is for break time and discussion time. When we chat, we sometimes miss out on important information. When you are focused, you produce amazing work Yr Wyddfa!
Have a lovely evening and see you bright and early tomorrow morning

This term, our reading is taking place through our topic. The children are still reading in their Guided Reading groups but there are no designated days. Therefore, the children need to bring their yellow reading diaries to school daily. Additionally, they have the opportunity to change their home readers whenever they have completed them. They just need to show me or Mrs Boat that they have either written a small summary of the book themselves in their diary or that a parent has made a comment and then they can change their book. Some children have not changed their books yet this term. I encourage you to do so this week please!
Here's to another week full of fun and learning. We are going to be delving into the wonderful world of Black History Month and looking deeper at the life of another influential figure. I wonder who it could be?????
We need to remember Year 6 that we are a team and as a team we should be supporting one another and wanting the best for everyone in Yr Wyddfa. It is time to work together to be the best team we can possibly be. Kindness is key!

Croeso Nol Pawb! Welcome Back Everyone!
I hope you have all had a restful summer and have had a chance to recharge your batteries for a fun filled and exciting year ahead.
Drinks
We ask that all children come to school with a labelled drinks bottle with either flavoured water or still/sparkling water in. There is to be NO squash or fizzy drinks in these bottles as we are a healthy school.
Snack
The children will have the opportunity to eat a small snack every day at breaktime. We encourage that these snacks are a piece of fruit or vegetable. If you are sending your child in with grapes, they MUST be cut into safe segments as these are a high choking risk when whole. If your child has whole grapes they will NOT be able to eat them on school property for health and safety reasons.
PE
The children's PE day will continue to be Tuesday this year and they are to come to school dressed ready to participate in the physical activity. We ask that they wear the following:
* Navy leggings/joggers/shorts
* White polo shirt/t-shirt
*Trainers
* Navy zip up jacket or hoodie for colder days - Please ensure these are labelled clearly with your child's name in case they remove them throughout the day.
Please note that NO jewellery is to be worn on PE days - it needs to be removed at home prior to coming to school.
Reading Books
We will sending home the children's reading books and reading day by the end of next week when we have had the opportunity to listen to each individual child read. Please continue to read any books from home whilst you wait for the school reading book to be sent home.
Creative Arts
During the year, the children will have a multitude of opportunities to get their creative juices flowing. This will mean that they could get a little messy from time to time. We ask that an old, labelled shirt or t-shirt is sent in with your child by the end of next week which we can keep in class and use for such creative sessions. We want to be able to protect the children's uniform as we appreciate the cost involved in replacing it.
Swimming
Year 5 and 6 will be swimming this term and will need the following
* Swimming costume (no bikinis please, swimsuits or trunks please)
* Towel
* Plastic bag for wet clothing.
As we are on a limited timeframe, there will be no time for the children to shower and only rinse after they have been swimming., Therefore, no shampoo or body wash is needed. For this reason, we suggest all those with long hair, come to school with it put up.
We will be starting our swimming sessions on Monday 16th September.
Wednesday 4th September

Penygawsi Book Swap
Next week is the 'Great Big Green Week' - the UK's biggest ever celebration of community action to tackle climate change and protect nature. The theme for this year is 'swaps'.
The Eco Committee have decided to run a 'Book Swap' in school as part of this celebration. We usually have so many books at home that we don't look at anymore and they could give so much enjoyment to someone else instead of sitting on a shelf. We ask that every child donates two books (or one, if you'd prefer) to our book swap, so we can create a range of choice. The Eco Committee will then set up a swap shop next Tuesday (11th) and each child will have the opportunity to choose a book to take home (free).
Please bring in your donated books (2 if possible) on Friday or at the latest on Monday morning, to give the Eco Committee time to sort them into age groups.

As part of our aim to support each pupil to achieve their potential and to ensure their emotional and social needs are being met, we are fortunate to work with SHINE again this term. They will be doing a class workshop based on ‘Worries and Anxieties’ during this term. If you do not want your child to be a part of this session, please send an email to the school admin.
If your child has been identified as needing one to one or small group sessions, I will discuss this with you.
They will also be offering Parent Workshops throughout the term. Further information on these will follow shortly.

World Down Syndrome Day - Please see information below.
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD), 21 March, is a global awareness day that has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.
The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
On this one day we have a chance to make a change. A better chance than any other day!
So, on 21 March we create a single global voice advocating for rights, inclusion, and well-being. Please join us in raising awareness of Down Syndrome by wearing either lots of socks or odd socks to school on this day!

LIGHTS, CAMERA, ACTION!
We are very excited to inform you that we have been lucky enough to secure a seven-week project with Upbeat Wales for Years 4 to 6. Upbeat Wales are a music and dance company who are determined to ensure the children in Wales get the best possible opportunities to find joy in creating performances. They are a team of experienced facilitators with a specialism in offering whole class music and dance tuition.
We have booked these workshops as part of our Expressive Arts topic ‘Lights, Camera Action!’ This project will take the place of a We will be delving into the wonderful world of junk percussion, where the children will have the opportunity to plan, create and perform a piece of music in the style of Stomp. At the end of the project we are excited to invite you in to watch the performance; a date will be confirmed closer to the time.
This amazing experience has been booked instead of an off-sight visit for this half term and we ask for a £10 contribution towards the seven workshops. We are sure you will agree that this experience will have a positive impact on the children’s wellbeing as well as inspiring future musicians and performers.
We ask that payment be made electronically by Friday 15th September. Please use the following link to pay: https://shorturl.at/cfoDM
Thank you as always, for your continued support
Kind regards
Mrs Rees, Mrs Evans and Miss Morris

I hope the children enjoyed their first few days in Year 6, I had a great time getting to know them all. We created a Class Charter by choosing the most important 'Rights' that we feel we should be entitled to and how we can ensure that we all have them. We had a great time discussing and debating which one was the most important. The children showed great maturity when putting their own viewpoint across. We have so many exciting opportunites planned for the year but lets start with what is happening this week:

What is World Down Syndrome Day?
World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) , 21 March, is a global awareness day which has been officially observed by the United Nations since 2012.
The date for WDSD being the 21st day of the 3rd month, was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome.
#WorldDownSyndromeDay
Why mark WDSD?
On this one day we have a chance to make a change. A better chance that any other day
Believe it or not, socks get people talking!
On Tuesday 21st March, choose some socks that are going to get noticed and wear them to school!
They might be mismatched socks or your craziest and most colourful socks, whatever takes your fancy!
The idea is to start a conversation, so when people ask you about your socks you can tell them, “I’m wearing them to raise awareness of Down syndrome”.
I look forward to seeing you all in your odd socks on Tuesday!

This Is Me!!
Our focus for the term is Expressive Arts with a particular focus on developing our artistic skills. We will be looking at how art contibutes to culture and social identity. In particular we will learn about Autralian Aboriginal Art and Venetian Art and the culture behind wearing masks. The children will end the term by making a mask to represent their identity and culture. We will be working with different artistic skills such as sketching, cross hatching, shading, dot art and many more.
We will also be writing biographies of artists and after half-term we will be writing stories from other cultures. We will also be developing our number skills and using them to plan and budget for an exhibition.
The children were lucky enough to have a look up close at the work of a local artist and ask questions. We are also planning a visit to Cardiff Museum on the 16th February, further details will be uploaded soon.

Mrs Evans
On Thursday 20th October, we will be holding our annual Harvest Festival. After completing this virtually last year, we are pleased that pupils will be able to once again come together to celebrate.
In Britain, thanks have been given for successful harvests since pagan times. A Harvest festival is traditionally held on the Sunday near or of the Harvest Moon. This is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. The celebrations on this day usually include singing hymns, praying, and decorating churches with baskets of fruit and food in the festival known as Harvest Festival, Harvest Home or Harvest Thanksgiving.
At Penygawsi we believe Harvest is an important time of year, not only to give thanks to God for all the wonderful food we eat, but also to help others that are less fortunate than us. We feel a great way to do this is to support a very special local charity, The Food Bank.
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. The Food Banks provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis. We are asking that, if possible, the children consider donating an item of food to our Harvest table that will be decorated and displayed in the hall during the week of our virtual assembly.
After our virtual celebrations, the School Council and staff will work to package any donations to send them to the food bank ready for local families who will be so very grateful to receive them.
Below is a list of items that Food Bank believe their families are in most need of:
We would be very grateful if you could bring any donations you would like to make to school by the morning of Thursday 20th October.
Thank you for your continued support

We are delighted to inform you that we will be holding our Year 6 Open Evening here at the school on Wednesday, October 5th 2022. On the evening, you will have the opportunity to
tour the school, meet and speak with staff and students, visit departments and sample some of the high quality work that our students produce.

Week commencing 12th September
We had a great start to our new school year in Eryri. The children have settled in and are ready for an exciting final year with us. However, it was tinged with sadness at the end of the week when we heard of our Queen Elizabeth' passing. We respectfully acknowledged her 70 years as our Monarch by discussing photos of her throughout her line of duty. I am sure that we will continue to remember her over the coming days and weeks.
The children have been introduced to our new topic through some problem solving activities (building the tallest structure and the strongest bridge) using resources given to them. They finally found out that we are going to be studying 'bridges' as part of our 'Super Structures' theme. I will upload photos soon.
As part of our new topic we have arranged a trip to visit Clifton Suspension Bridge in Bristol on Wednesday 21st September. The trip will consist of a tour of the bridge and a workshop where the children will have an opportunity to make their own bridge through problem solving and budgeting activities. We will need to be leaving the school at 8:30am to be able to be there by 10am for us to make the most of the opportunity. We will return to school by 3pm.
Due to the increasing costs of fuel our wonderful PTA have agreed to support school trips this term by contributing £200 towards the cost of the coach. Their generous contribution has meant that the cost per child is reduced to support us in these financially difficult times. The school has also made a contribution. We ask for a contribution from youselves of £12.50 per child. It will be a great experience for the children to learn all about Clifton Suspension Bridge. Please click on the link below for payment.
The children will start swimming on Monday 19th September, as part of the curriculum we ask that children take part each week until Christmas. We have been allocated a morning slot. The children need to wear a full piece swimming costume (girls) or swim shorts for boys. They can bring goggles if they have them. We have limited time at the pool so no time will be given to wash and dry hair so if hair can be in a bobble for this day it would make it easier for the children.
The week ahead:
Dydd Mawrth/ Tuesday
The children will need to wear PE kit to school as it is their Fit4Fun session.
I will upload our termly newsletter to this page soon.
End of day pick-up
Please could we ask that you follow the arrows and continue moving when collecting your child at the end of the school day. If you need to speak to the class teacher please could you move to the side so that others can continue moving around the pick-up area. This will ensure that teachers can see the children leaving the yard safely with an adult - especially the younger KS2 children. Many thanks for your ongoing support with this.
Fit4fun after school football.
Starting on Tuesday 13th September, Years 5 and 6 can attend the Fit4Fun afterschool activity, this term it will be football but will change next term. It will be a 7 week course and will cost £31.50 in total, if interested please click on the link below:

Recycle unwanted clothes and raise funds for our school!
A quick reminder that we are still collecting clothing at school and donating to Dragon Bags, a company which is a free fundraising scheme that helps schools across Wales raise funds through textile recycling. The money we raise from this scheme goes towards buying resources for use in the classroom and outdoors to enhance the learning experiences we offer our pupils.
How Does it Work?
Dragon Bag's aim is to help every single school throughout Wales achieve their fundraising goals as well as diverting textiles from landfill at the same time. Parents/Carers donate their unwanted clothing to school and it is placed in one of our recycling bins. We have one in the school hall and one in the staff car park. Once the bins are full, we contact Dragon Bags and they come to collect our donations. Once your clothes are loaded onto their van they start a journey that could take them to any corner of the world. Different items will be more likely to end up in different climates; that old ski suit isn’t likely to be making its way to Africa any-time soon! One thing all the clothes do have in common is that they are going to a place where they will provide affordable clothing to people who need it.
When the clothes are collected, the items are weighed and the school are issued with a receipt pf collection. Once the final weight is agreed, the school receive the relevant funds within 5 days. At present we get 35p/kg.
If you are thinking of having a clear out, please bring your unwanted clothes to school and we will take care of the rest. Take a look below at the items Dragon Bags will accept.
There are some items they can not accept. Take a look below:
Any donations will be gratefully received.
We thank you in advance for your continued support.

If someone asks you about your socks you can tell them, "I'm wearing them to raise awareness of Down syndrome".

Rights Morning - 9th March
As part of our weekly rights session in KS2, we have decided that this week's articles will link to war and conflict. With the ever increasing news coverage of the heart-breaking situation in Ukraine, and the increased number of questions coming from our pupils, we feel it is important to discuss what is happening. Years 3 to 6 will take part in discussion activities and circle time sessions where their feelings and fears will be addressed. Obviously each session will be age appropriate dependent on the year group and the amount of information discussed will differ from years 3 to 6.
As a school, we feel it is important to address this matter but also offer support to the people of Ukraine. We are therefore asking for a £1 donation to the charity UNICEF who we are working closely with as we continue on our rights journey. UNICEF currently have an emergency Ukraine crisis appeal and are one of the many humanitarian charities calling for an immediate ceasefire.
They have been working tirelessly to keep children safe since this conflict began eight years ago and they are determined to remain in Ukraine to reach the most vulnerable children and families.
We thank you for your continued support and appreciate any donations that are given.
Kind Regards

Christmas Performance
Please consider the Christmas video in the same way as you would if taking a video in the school hall.
They are for personal use only, for you to enjoy as a parent/guardian/carer. They should be watched in J2E and not downloaded.
They must not be shared on any form of social media.
Many children and their parents do not consent to them being shared and we need to be mindful that we keep everyone safe online.
It is only by being supportive of everyone’s wishes, that we can continue to share in this way.
Thank you support in this matter.

We have been fortunate enough to secure an educational visit from a group called 'Divergent' for the children on Thursday 18th November at school. They will work with years 5 and 6 in our class bubbles.
The aim of the workshop is to enhance pupils drama and Oracy skills and will link to our World War 2 topic. This will support us with the end product of our topic, which will see us showcase our Oracy skills as we plan to act out one area of World War 2 that we have researched this term.
We kindly ask for a contribution of £5 to cover the cost of the workshop, which should be paid online.

Children In Need - 2021
As you may be aware, Children in Need is on Friday 19th November. School Council and Super Ambassadors met last week to discuss how we can celebrate one of our most favourite days in the school calendar safely. We have decided that the children will celebrate in their class bubbles but everyone will come to school dressed in the same theme.
This year, School Council have decided upon HEROES as our theme. This means children can come dressed as their most treasured hero for the day. If you do not have a costume at home or your child does not have a specific hero then they are welcome to come dressed in their pjs instead. We will be asking for a £1 donation for this special charity.
I am looking forward to meeting with parents on Tuesday and Wednesday. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Harvest Festival 2021
On November 3rd, we will be holding our annual Harvest Festival. It is going to be a little different this year and we will be delivering our Harvest items in our class bubbles virtually. The pupils will enjoy the assembly from the comfort of their classrooms with each class celebrating in their own unique way.
We are asking that if possible the children consider donating an item of food to our Harvest table that will be decorated and displayed in the hall during the week of our virtual assembly.
After our virtual celebrations, the School Council and staff will work to package any donations to send them to the food bank ready for local families who will be so very grateful to receive them.
Below is a list of items that Food Bank believe their families are in most need of:
We would be very grateful if you could bring any donations you would like to make to school by Monday 1st November 2021.
Thank you for your continued support

Year 5 and 6 swimming lessons will take place every Monday, starting 11th October, throughout the autumn term.
Please can pupils remember to bring the following to school each Monday for lessons:
- Bathers (this should be a one piece swimming costume for girls and appropriate length shorts for boys)
- A towel
- Goggles
Just a reminder that pupils will not have time after lessons to wash hair and shower, so shower gel, shampoo or any other items are not needed.

It seems such a long time ago that some of our pupils spent an exciting weekend in Llangrannog. However, we have good new! We now have the opportunity to take our Year 6 pupils to Llangrannog next year. The dates are for the weekend of 20th to 22nd May 2022. We estimate the cost to be between £160.00 and £180.00 per child.
The price is inclusive of meals, lodgings, transport, membership and activities. It is a great opportunity for the children to experience an overnight stay with school. The children are encouraged to speak Welsh and will also hear a great deal of Welsh being spoken. There is a fun packed timetable organised for the weekend which can includes activities such as: archery, swimming, dry slope skiing, quad biking, high ropes, climbing, horse riding, tobogganing and dancing! You can find out more information on the below website;
http://www.urdd.cymru/en/residential-centres/llangrannog/things-do/our-activities/
Before we fully commit to the trip and request a non-refundable deposit of £50.00, we would like to establish how many children would be interested in this trip.
Please would you complete the attached form and return by Monday indicating if your child would like to attend the trip or use this link to complete an online form.
We have been nominated to take part in the Morrisons 'Good to Grow' scheme. We can collect tokens which can be exchanged for gardening equipment for our school.
For every £10 you spend (in store or online), you will get a 'grow' token which can be donated to a school of your choice. You need to download the MyMorrisons app to start collecting and to nominate the school you would like to donate your 'grow' tokens to.
This is a great opportunity to get some new gardening equipment for our school allotment, so please tell any family or friends who shop in Morrisons all about it! Diolch.

Good evening I hope you have all had a lovely weekend. We had a great first week back getting to know one another. We discussed the Children's Rights and the rules that we need to follow. The children also ordered different events and movements that have happened in the past on a timeline. There was also lots of discussion about what they would like to learn in the different areas of learning linking to our theme 'Through The Keyhole'.
The children should have brought a letter home for you to apply for their secondary school place. If you haven't received this please let me know.
We have assessed the children's spelling so they should have brought their list home to practice. We will be starting on list 1.

I have uploaded the Prom photos to J2e, please let me know if you are unable to see them.
There will be more uploaded as we go through the week. I will share the Leavers Assembly with you later in the week along with the song.
It is with mixed emotions that I write the final Eryri post for Year 6 this evening. Firstly I must say I am so proud of the children for their maturity, kindness and sheer grit for getting through a tough year without any complaints. It has been a real pleasure being on the journey with them and sharing such a unique experience. We have developed in our own way and found a new way of learning and communicating with each other through the Online Learning Experience. Huge thanks to all of the families for supporting the children throughout the year as they would not be where they are now without us all working together.
The children are ready to take on the new challenges that Secondary School will pose and I am confident that they will rise to each and every one on them. I would love for them to keep in touch to let us know how they are doing.
I would like to thank you all for you kind gifts that I received at the end of the Prom on Thursday, I was very overwhelmed.
I am looking forward to spending our last week together!!

Week commencing 5th July
Please see below for information about the Prom.
Prom Information
Hi all we are getting very close to the big event of the year. I want to update you all with the plans for the evening.
Key mitigating measures
You must not attend if you have any of the three main symptoms of COVID-19;
You should instead self-isolate and arrange a COVID-19 test. We will ensure we will follow all other guidelines as we have outlined in a risk assessment that has been written for this occasion.
Mobile Phones
We will not be permitting the use of mobile phones in school during the Prom. We will take plenty of photos of the children during the evening and will share them with you afterwards. So there will be no need for the use of phones.
Dropping Off
Please could you drop your child off at the bottom of the driveway by the main gates at 6pm as it will be safer to limit the amount of people on site. Could you also collect from the same place at 8pm. There will no cars allowed up the drive during the evening. Any pre-booked transport (Limos etc) will need to drop off at the bottom of the drive as well.
We will be recording the leavers song this week so please be in every day and bring clothes for the song with you every day.
School Traffic Survey
Our school is working in partnership with Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council (RCTCBC) and WEPCO (the design and delivery partner) on a school travel plan. A school travel plan is a range of measures that aim to achieve the following objectives:
An important part of developing the travel plan is understanding how and why everyone travels to school in the way they do.
The survey is now open and you're invited to have your say! Please note that a separate link is provided for pupils, staff and parents and each survey should take between 5-10 minutes to complete. By gaining a better understanding of your current travel patterns and choices, we can work towards a more sustainable future and ensure that each individual voice is heard during the design process. Please click on the link below and support your child in completing the survey.

Wow what lovely weather we are having!! Please could children wear their PE kits to school on Tuesday for PE, but they MUST bring their uniform to school in a bag to change into for the transition afternoon? Please remember that those going to Y Pant will need to be collected from Y Pant at the end of the school day. Transport to take them for 2 o'clock is provided.
We are hoping to do sports day this week so could PE kits also be worn on Wednesday as well?
Unfortunately we are unable to invite spectators for the sports, but I will take photographs to post on here later in the week.
Please could all children bring a drink to school every day and apply sun cream before school as we will be outdoors.
I am still sorting out the leavers book so if you still haven't sent some nursery photos of your child, please do so ASAP as we will be sending them off soon.

Due to the current restrictions we will be unable to take a trip to the area but, if you are looking for somewhere to go over the next few weeks you may want to take a trip yourselves.

Summer Term 2021
Wow I can't believe that we are in the last term of 2021. I know that this is an important term for Year 6 as they reach the end of primary school and prepare for their new adventure towards secondary school and beyond. To say that I am so proud of the children with what they are accomplishing through these difficult times is an understatement. They are amazing young people who I am enjoying being with on our journey.
I hope you have all have a lovely break and looking forward to the rest of our journey to the end of primary school. Our new theme this term is 'Together Stronger' and the children have decided that they would like to make a 'Stop Motion Movie' for the end product of our topic which we are all excited about. We will keep you informed and share the end product with you as the term progresses.
Please could the children wear PE kits to school every Tuesday as this will be their PE day.
I will keep you informed as the term progresses.
Many thanks for your support to date

Week commencing 22nd March
Well we are finally in the last week of a very unusual term. I am so glad that the Easter Holidays are in sight now, for us to have a break and re-charge our batteries. I am so proud of the children for returning to school with enthusiasm and eager to continue with their learning. They are a credit to you all!!
Please could the pupils wear PE kit on Tuesday as they will have PE with Fit4fun in the afternoon. It would be a good idea for them to bring a drink of water as well.
Easter Sponsored Read
As part of our school vision to encourage the children to immerse themselves in reading for enjoyment, we have decided to do a Sponsored Read during the Easter break. The money raised will help to fund the expansion of our school library,.
At the end of the week, we will be sharing the Sponsor form and explanation of how to engage your child in the Readathon!!
The documents will be shared via the J2e for your child's class on the HWB platform that we used during the Online Learning. Paper copies are available if you need them, please let me know.
You can choose how you would like to sponsor your child, either an amount per minute/hour/chapter/book or you could have fun trying to get a line or a house using the Bingo Reading Card that is also in the folder.
The child who raises the most sponsorship money will receive a prize of a new book!!!
I hope you all have an amazing Easter break!!

It has been a massive learning curve for us all and I want thank you for bearing with me with the technology. On Sunday 21st of March it is World Down Syndrome Day. As a school, we always raise awareness of this day, and this year is no different. On Friday 19th of March we are asking that all pupils come to school wearing 'lots of socks', crazy socks or maybe mismatched socks. Let's get people talking about Down Syndrome!
The PTA have organised an Easter Raffle this year and the children will be given tickets to sell on Monday/Tuesday. Apologies for the short notice but can we have them returned by Thursday.
Many Thanks.
Please ensure that pupils have a coat in school with them every day and a substantial, healthy snack to eat at break time.
I can't wait to see you all this week!!

This term our topic is based around 'Love Where You Live'. We have decided to make use of our lovely grounds in school and grow our on vegetables and plants in the outdoor allotment area. We will be writing a Balanced Argument about whether we need to eat fruit and vegetables every day. We will be researching the best produce to grow in the Spring and the best conditions for planting. In Science we are looking at plants and undertaking investigations about the best conditions for germination. In Maths we will look at measuring accurately. Our Welsh topic is Hamdden and we are learning future and past tense sentence patterns to vary our writing.
