We have Fit For Fun on Wednesday this week NOT Tuesday. Please ensure your child has a hat and sensible clothing for their PE session.
If your child did not return their reading book and diary to school last week as requested, could they please bring them in by Tuesday at the latest this week?
At the beginning of the week, we are looking to give the children a nice cool treat. Please could you check the ingredients and let me know tomorrow morning, or the school office if your child is unable to have 1 of the following 2 freeze pops?
I hope you have had a lovely weekend and enjoyed the sun safely.

As the weather is heating up and we are spending more time working outside the classroom, it is really important that the children come to school with sun cream applied. If they need to top up throughout the day, they may bring their own sun cream into school as long as they are able to apply it safely independently. It would also be beneficial if they have a sun hat with them for use at break times as when working outdoors. Please ensure your child has a refillable water bottle with them each day too.

Global Day - The children will spend the day jetting off around the world to a range of different countries to learn about their landscapes, wildlife and culture. The children will also learn about our online charity bank Lend With Care which we set up several years ago but due to COVID have been unable to use over the past few years.
Lendwithcare is a revolutionary way to help people in low-income countries to work their way out of poverty with dignity. Through Lendwithcare, we can lend as little as £15 to fund a small business. Once our money is repaid, we can choose to recycle our loan to support more low-income entrepreneurs, make a donation or withdraw our funds.
Lendwithcare is an initiative of poverty fighting charity, CARE International UK. They currently operate in eleven countries and you can find out more about how Lendwithcare works here.
100% of the money loaned through Lendwithcare goes to the low-income entrepreneurs you choose to support.
Global Day will see us relaunching this account with School Council discussing which entrepreneurs they feel need our support the most. Keep an eye out on this page towards the end of the week to find out who we have chosen to lend our money to.

DARLLEN
Your child came home on Friday with their new school reading book. We are very pleased to be able to return to paper books for our school readers. I listened to all children last week and assessed which level they should now be on. It was lovely to see many moving up a level. For those that have stayed on the same level, there is time to move up before the summer term ends. If you read for at least 5 minutes every day this will improve, not only your fluency and expression, but also your comprehension.
Reading books will be changed every Friday and should be returned to school on a Thursday. However, if your child finishes before a Thursday and wishes to change the book they are welcome to return it any day of the week. Can I please ask that you comment in your child's reading diary at least once during the week? Your child is welcome to comment about their opinion on the book they have read but, I would like to have a comment from a parent/guardian about the child's fluency, expression and understanding of what they have read.
BIG SPELLING
Your child came home on Friday with their updated spelling list. All children, unless told by me on Friday are to start at week 1 of the list they brought home. Some may not have moved up a list as when assessed they still had gaps in the spelling rules that they may have previously learnt. This is why we are asking all children to start at week 1 to ensure the children become more confident with those spelling patterns.
Spell Checks will take place every Monday morning, starting Monday 9th May. There will be NO spell check this week, just spelling practise.
Here's to a fun packed week where we start delving into the wonderful world of digital film and media as we start our new topic Speak Up!

We will end the week with an exciting afternoon where we immerse ourselves into our new topic 'Speak Up' I wonder what this new topic could be about????

Dear Parents / Carers,
I am really pleased to be able to announce that Mrs Rees in Dosbarth Caerau is pregnant. This is always exciting news to be able to share.
Mrs Rees has no plans to finish at present and will be in school after the Easter holidays. However, as it is becoming increasingly noticeable, she wished to share her exciting news with the school community.
Depending on the advice from HR regarding Covid and pregnant workers, it is possible that Mrs Rees may be in school until May half term or even the summer holidays.
When Mrs Rees has made a decision, I will contact parents in Mrs Rees’s class to inform them of the plans for cover during Mrs Rees’s maternity leave.
Best wishes
Mr Davies

Recycle unwanted clothes and raise funds for our school!
A quick reminder that we are still collecting clothing at school and donating to Dragon Bags, a company which is a free fundraising scheme that helps schools across Wales raise funds through textile recycling. The money we raise from this scheme goes towards buying resources for use in the classroom and outdoors to enhance the learning experiences we offer our pupils.
How Does it Work?
Dragon Bag's aim is to help every single school throughout Wales achieve their fundraising goals as well as diverting textiles from landfill at the same time. Parents/Carers donate their unwanted clothing to school and it is placed in one of our recycling bins. We have one in the school hall and one in the staff car park. Once the bins are full, we contact Dragon Bags and they come to collect our donations. Once your clothes are loaded onto their van they start a journey that could take them to any corner of the world. Different items will be more likely to end up in different climates; that old ski suit isn’t likely to be making its way to Africa any-time soon! One thing all the clothes do have in common is that they are going to a place where they will provide affordable clothing to people who need it.
When the clothes are collected, the items are weighed and the school are issued with a receipt pf collection. Once the final weight is agreed, the school receive the relevant funds within 5 days. At present we get 35p/kg.
If you are thinking of having a clear out, please bring your unwanted clothes to school and we will take care of the rest. Take a look below at the items Dragon Bags will accept.
There are some items they can not accept. Take a look below:
Any donations will be gratefully received. We thank you in advance for your continued support.

Rights Morning - 9th March
As part of our weekly rights session in KS2, we have decided that this week's articles will link to war and conflict. With the ever increasing news coverage of the heart-breaking situation in Ukraine, and the increased number of questions coming from our pupils, we feel it is important to discuss what is happening. Years 3 to 6 will take part in discussion activities and circle time sessions where their feelings and fears will be addressed. Obviously each session will be age appropriate dependent on the year group and the amount of information discussed will differ from years 3 to 6.
As a school, we feel it is important to address this matter but also offer support to the people of Ukraine. We are therefore asking for a £1 donation to the charity UNICEF who we are working closely with as we continue on our rights journey. UNICEF currently have an emergency Ukraine crisis appeal and are one of the many humanitarian charities calling for an immediate ceasefire.
They have been working tirelessly to keep children safe since this conflict began eight years ago and they are determined to remain in Ukraine to reach the most vulnerable children and families.
We thank you for your continued support and appreciate any donations that are given.
Kind Regards

Swimming
Swimming with the local authority will begin this week, Friday 4th February. Years 3 and 4 will be going swimming every Friday for the remainder of the Spring Term.
Please can pupils remember to bring the following to school each Friday for lessons:
- Bathers (this should be a one piece swimming costume for girls and appropriate length shorts for boys)
- A towel
- Goggles (if needed)
- A bag (to put their wet clothing and towel in)
Pupils will not have time after lessons to wash hair and shower, so shower gel, shampoo or any other items are not needed.

Last week the pupils were re-assessed in their Big Spell and many have moved up lists. There are a handful of pupils left to assess tomorrow and when they have been completed, new lists will be sent home. We will start the spell checks a week tomorrow, Monday 17th January.
I was very proud of the way you returned to school last week Caerau, a big da iawn and diolch! You cam back to school with an excellent work ethic and settled back into the classroom very well.
Going forward, we need to make sure that we keep the chatting to a minimum until outside on the yard, and when chatting in class we use our spy whisper voices so that the noise level doesn't get too loud. Remember, we have some members of the class who find it difficult when the noise gets loud.
I am really looking forward to starting our new topic this week and delving into the wonderful world of all creatures great and small.
Have a lovely Sunday afternoon and see you bright and early tomorrow morning.

Blwyddyn Newydd Dda! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas with your families and I hope you are fit and well! I would like to start by saying a big thank you for your Christmas gifts, it was very kind of you and very much appreciated by myself and the other members of staff in Caerau. We are very much looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow.

Swimming

See you tomorrow. I am looking forward to hearing about all your news.

Christmas Concert Video
Caerau's Christmas video will be shared in Caerau's J2E shared folder on Hwb tomorrow at 4pm. We hope you enjoy.
Please consider the Christmas video in the same way as you would if taking a video in the school hall. They are for personal use only, for you to enjoy as a parent/guardian/carer. They should be watched in J2E and not downloaded. They must not be shared on any form of social media.
Many children and their parents do not consent to them being shared and we need to be mindful that we keep everyone safe online. It is only by being supportive of everyone’s wishes, that we can continue to share in this way.
Thank you for your support in this matter.
‘Only by working together, can we achieve our aims.’
WYTHNOS 14 - Week Beginning 13th December
Wow! Can you believe we are about to start our last week of the Autumn term? It is true what they say, time flies when you are having fun! We have had an amazing first term in year 4 and you have all been working very hard. I am extremely proud of everything you have achieved this term and you should be proud of yourselves. It has been a pleasure to look at and mark your books over the last few weeks, you have produced some lovely pieces of work. Just one more week and we will be finishing for a well deserved Christmas break!
Techniquest Trip
It is safe to say we all had a blast on Thursday on our first trip in 2 years. It was such a lovely feeling to get on a coach as a whole class and arrive somewhere off site to spend the day together. The children were very well behaved and great ambassadors for our school. They spent the morning exploring the science exhibitions on offer. The echo of laughter filled the room and it was such a lovely sound. After dinner we were treated to an Elf and Safety workshop where we helped Santa's Chief Elf to decide which new inventions would be passed. There were sparks, flames and bangs galore, we LOVED it!
Take a look at some of the fun we had...

We are continuing our journey around the world delving into the Christmas traditions in many countries on our travels. The children will be working in groups and independently to carry out a range of tasks that will include research, leaflet writing and elf daily routines.
Take a look at last week's fun...
On Monday a mysterious parcel arrived in Caerau with snowy footprints left beside it. On the parcel lay a tag with a message to Year 4 from the big man himself, Father Christmas! He has asked for our help. He wants to know if Christmas is the same all over the world or whether there are different traditions in each country. We spent the morning delving into the big bag of goodies left and discussed where in the world they came from.
We had fluffy hats from Russia, a sarong from Australia, metro timetables for Madrid and traditional Indian dress to name just a few things we looked at. We also had a few sweet treats delivered which we are going to enjoy this Monday as we ran out of time last week.
We created ourselves as elves. Article 8 of UNCRC states that all children have a right to an identity and we decided to elf ourselves and look at how identities can change.
Following on from our elf activity we delved deeper into the wonderful world of identity during Rights Wednesday where we discussed how identity is not just about the way we look but about everything inside that makes us who we are. The children discussed stereotypes and assumptions and the fact that Article 2 UNCRC states that ALL children should have all 42 rights. This means that no matter where a child comes from, what they look like, who or where they live, they deserve to be treated the same and have the opportunity to have adults who do the best for them.
Here's to another fun packed week Caerau. Have a wonderful Sunday and see you tomorrow morning bright and early, ready to learn.

Wow! What another fun packed week we had last week during our stay cation in the UK looking at Remembrance Day. I am extremely proud of the effort shown by everyone. Take a look at the fun we had below...

This week we are starting the Christmas festivities as we jet off around the world to discover the traditions that take place during this magical time in many different countries. We are going to be delving into many cultures, religions and beliefs to help the children become ethically informed citizens who know their rights and use what they know to find out more about the world.
There will be no specific Guided Reading sessions this week as I will be working with groups in a different way and we will be incorporating our reading sessions within different tasks throughout the week. I ask instead, that all pupils bring their Reading Diaries in tomorrow so that I can award any reading dojos to those who have been practising their reading at home over the last week.
The children came home on Friday with their lines for the Christmas concert. This year it will be a virtual concert and each class will be creating a short video for our a parents to enjoy. Please could you spend this week helping your child learn their line/s. There will be no homework this week so that they can dedicate the time to learn the words and the two songs we will introduce to them tomorrow. In terms of costumes, I will let you know what is needed tomorrow afternoon.

WYTHNOS 11 - Week Beginning 22nd November
We had a great week last week celebrating Antibullying Week, Remembrance Day and Children in Need. I was very proud of the discussions had during the week and the way the children listened to each other with empathy and compassion. Take a look at some of the fun we had...
GARDEN OF KINDNESS
As a whole school, we are busy making things to create a beautiful Garden of kindness in the school hall. Caerau were asked to create birds of all shapes and sizes. We watched a tutorial giving us step by step instructions to make origami birds, and then turned paper plates into beautiful robins and colourful birds of paradise.
WORLD DIABETES DAY
Sunday 14th of November was World Diabetes Day which became an official United Nations Day in 2006. It is marked every year on 14th November because this is the birthday of Sir Frederick Banting, who co-discovered insulin along with Charles Best in 1922. In class we found out about diabetes and how people are affected by it, and also watched videos to find out about the amazing work Diabetes UK do to support those with this illness. We then designed blue nail creations to mark 100 years since insulin was discovered.
RIGHTS MORNING
On Wednesday mornings we spend the time discussing the rights of a child. We have spent the last few weeks familiarising ourselves with the 42 UNCRC articles. This week I was very impressed with how many the children have remembered and understood. Ask your child what rights they remember. I wonder which ones have stayed with them the most. As part of Antibullying Week, we looked at the rights linked to a child's development. We looked at the following:
* Article 8 - A right to an identity.
* Article 12 - A right to be listened to.
* Article 19 - A right to be protected from violence and abuse.
Article 23 - A right to special care and education if disabled.
* Article 24 - A right to healthy food and clean water.
The children worked in groups to discuss what they need to ensure they have all these rights. They filled an outline of one of their group with these things. The final pictures looked amazing. Take a look below...

Anti-Bullying Week is an annual UK event which aims to raise awareness of bullying and to highlight ways of preventing and responding to it. At Penygawsi we understand the importance of raising awareness during this week and providing our pupils with the tools and strength needed if they ever find themselves being bullied.
This year the theme is ‘One Kind Word’, emphasising the positive impact a small gesture or comment can have on someone else’s day. Odd Socks Day is held on 15th November to kick off Anti-Bullying Week. This day helps us to recognise that everyone is unique and different, and that we all need kindness and respect.

As you may be aware, Children in Need is on Friday 19th November. School Council and Super Ambassadors met last week to discuss how we can celebrate one of our most favourite days in the school calendar safely. We have decided that the children will celebrate in their class bubbles but everyone will come to school dressed in the same theme.
This year, School Council have decided upon HEROES as our theme. This means children can come dressed as their most treasured hero for the day. If you do not have a costume at home or your child does not have a specific hero then they are welcome to come dressed in their pjs instead. We will be asking for a £1 donation for this special charity.

CLASS TRIP
As part of our science topic this term, we have planned and booked a trip to Techniquest for later this term. We are very excited to be able to offer a trip to the pupils after such a challenging time last year. We know the children are very much looking forward to it as much as we are.
The trip is booked for Thursday 9th December. During the visit we will have time to explore the many science exhibitions that Techniquest has on offer, as well as taking part in one of their fabulous workshops. As we are visiting during December, we have chosen one of their Christmas themed science shows, Elf and Safety.
We will join the Elf and Safety team as they show us the very latest in elf technology to help prepare Santa for what will be his busiest Christmas yet. As if jetting around the entire world in just one night wasn’t enough to expect, it turns out that the number of children who need a visit this year is higher than ever. If we don’t take some drastic action, we could have the world’s worst delivery crisis on our hands! Now, it’s down to the elves to come up with new clever ideas to help meet this challenge. But wait… some of those inventions look a bit odd to us, are they sure they’re safe? We’re going to join the team and help the elves to test out their plans to save Christmas this year.
During the visit, the children will have the opportunity to develop not only their science skills, but their numeracy and literacy skills too.
We are asking for a voluntary contribution of £7.50 towards the cost of the trip. The children will need to wear their school uniform and bring a packed lunch with them on the day.
As you may be aware, all school trip payments now take place online as this is the preferred method suggested by RCT local authority. To pay your contribution to the trip, visit the following link.
http://www.rctcbc.gov.uk/schoolpayments
We are asking that payments be paid by Wednesday 10th November, with the payment closing on Friday 12th November. A letter will come home with your child on Monday and if you agree to them attending the trip, please complete the form at the bottom of the letter and returned to school by Friday 12th November.
Thank you for your continued support

HARVEST FESTIVAL 2021
On November 3rd, we will be holding our annual Harvest Festival. It is going to be a little different this year and we will be delivering our Harvest items in our class bubbles virtually. The pupils will enjoy the assembly from the comfort of their classrooms with each class celebrating in their own unique way.
In Britain, thanks have been given for successful harvests since pagan times. A Harvest festival is traditionally held on the Sunday near or of the Harvest Moon. This is the full Moon that occurs closest to the autumn equinox. The celebrations on this day usually include singing hymns, praying, and decorating churches with baskets of fruit and food in the festival known as Harvest Festival, Harvest Home or Harvest Thanksgiving.
At Penygawsi we believe Harvest is an important time of year, not only to give thanks to God for all the wonderful food we eat, but also to help others that are less fortunate than us. We feel a great way to do this is to support a very special local charity, The Food Bank.
Every day people in the UK go hungry for reasons ranging from redundancy to receiving an unexpected bill on a low income. The Food Banks provide a minimum of three days emergency food and support to people experiencing crisis. We are asking that if possible the children consider donating an item of food to our Harvest table that will be decorated and displayed in the hall during the week of our virtual assembly.
After our virtual celebrations, the School Council and staff will work to package any donations to send them to the food bank ready for local families who will be so very grateful to receive them.
Below is a list of items that Food Bank believe their families are in most need of:
We would be very grateful if you could bring any donations you would like to make to school by Monday 1st November 2021.

As you may be aware, at Penygawsi we have several pupil voice committees, and each year the children vote for their class representatives. During the voting process, the children have the opportunity to express why they would like to be part of their chosen committee. Each class listen to those who are interested and then vote for their favourite candidates. This year, we will be voting on Monday 4th October for this year's committee members.
The children can apply for more than one committee but can only be successful for one. For each committee, one girl and one boy representative will be chosen. The committees we will be voting for on Monday are as follows:

Welsh Days of The Week
It has come to my attention that some of our parents are not familiar with the days of the week in Welsh. I apologise for not using the English translation next to them but as a school we have had a push on using the Welsh language for many years now and are currently working towards earning our Silver Award in the Cymraeg Campus. In order to achieve this, we are keen to have a visual Welsh ethos throughout the school. It is for this reason I use the Welsh days of the week on this class page.
Please see below the translation for the days of the week for those who may need it. I have also attached a lovely song video from Cyw which you may like to watch with your child.

A little reminder that we have become a paper less school when it comes to homework and all work will be uploaded and should be submitted through Hwb. Therefore, we will not be sending home paper copies of the tasks set each week, unless your child has an issue with their Hwb account.
There is no need to print anything out as we would like the pupils to use J2Launch and the applications on there to complete the tasks set. Every week, I will give suggestions of the specific app your child could use.
Your child came home on Friday with their updated username and password to log on to Oxford Reading Buddy. During the first week of term, all pupils in KS2 undertook a reading assessment which looked at their reading fluency and comprehension. From this the pupils have been regrouped and changes may have been made to the stage they are reading on Oxford Reading Buddy.
Please do not worry if your child is repeating a stage or has stayed on the same stage, this does not mean they have gone backwards but it means that they have not completed certain stages and it is beneficial that they do.
Unfortunately, we are unable to send paper books home at present, so please can you encourage your child to read books using Oxford Reading Buddy and any that you have at home? When listening to your child read, we encourage you to make a comment in their reading diaries, which will be looked at when they are brought to school on your child's reading day. If your child needs a new reading diary please let me know.
Please remember, your child listening to you read is just as important as you listening to them. When you read, you are modelling expression, pauses and the pronunciation of more difficult words. If you are the one doing the reading, ask your child a set of questions to determine their understanding of what they have listened to.
Your child will be told their reading groups tomorrow. Please see below the Reading Group Days for this term.
Monday - Hansel and Gretel
Tuesday - Gingerbread Man
Wednesday - Puss in Boots
Thursday - Jack in The Beanstalk
Friday - Hansel and Gretel
So, something very exciting happened last week. A magical keyhole appeared in the classroom with an envelope inside. When we opened the envelope we found a letter from Welsh explorer Ash Dykes. He has set Caerau a challenge to find out about the celebrations and traditions around the world. Once we finished reading the letter, we discussed our ideas and then watched an interview with Ash himself; he really is one cool dude!
Here's to another fun packed week Year 4. I am looking forward to delving through the keyhole and finding out about the wonderful celebrations that take place in our first country of choice, China.
Have a lovely Sunday and see you Monday morning

Wythnos 2 - W.B 13th September 2021
Wow, what a great first week back we had! It was lovely to see the children's smiley faces on Monday and also see them still there on Friday afternoon. They especially enjoyed our science investigations focused on forces. We made predictions, talked about fair testing and carried out 2 enquiries looking at the height and material of ramps, and how this affects the distance a car travels. Take a look at the photos below to see some of the fun we had.
I hope the children enjoyed their first week in Caerau and are looking forward to another exciting week ahead.

What Is Happening This Week?
Your child will come Monday with their new Big Spelling set list. We carried out an assessment last week to see what list was needed for each child. As it is a new term, we will be starting from List 1 of each set again. So even if your child brings home the same set as before the summer, they need to start with List 1. Revising words they have done previously will not harm them and in fact, will help them spell them without support in their independent writing.
Please support your child in learning these spellings throughout the week. We suggest they spend at least 5 minutes a day practising each word, spelling them verbally, writing them down and also putting them into sentences so that they have a thorough understanding of the word.
Our spelling tests will take place every week on a Monday, with the children practising them daily during registration Tuesday to Friday.
Take a look at this tip sheet with some strategies for learning spellings.

Please wear PE kit to school today as you have Fit For Fun followed by your first Music session.

Language homework will be uploaded to J2Homework today and is due back on Monday 20th September.
We have a busy week ahead Caerau, it is important that we remain focused and keep the chatting to a minimum. Remember those indoor voices and let's try really hard to keep our bottoms on our seats this week!
Have a lovely Sunday evening and see you bright and early tomorrow morning my little lovelies.

Wythnos 1 - Week Beginning 6th September
Welcome to Caerau's Class Page. This is where you will find all the relevant information you will need for your child's class each week. I aim to update this page before Sunday afternoon each week. I will also update photos and information about the fun and exciting things we will be doing in class.
Hello from me! I am Mrs Rees and I will be your child's class teacher this year. I am really looking forward to working in Year 4 and getting to know your child, as well as yourselves over the next three terms.
We are very lucky to have Mrs Mallia with us this year. She will be with us every day and there to support individual pupils within the class.
I hope you have had a wonderful summer and have enjoyed lots of time with family and friends. After such a strange year, we all certainly deserved some fun and adventures. I am looking forward to hearing all about what you have been up to and seeing you all on Monday. I hope you are all excited to return to school and ready for lots of fun while we start the next part of your learning journey.
Our first week will focus on you settling into Year 4 and giving me time to get to know you all. We have our Class Charter to complete, looking at the Children's Rights we would like to focus on in our class this year, along with the rules we think we need to make Caerau the best class it can possibly be!
Every day, your child will need to bring:
A packed lunch (if they are not having school dinner.)
A small, healthy snack in a sealed bag or container.
A bottle of water - NO squash or fizzy drinks please.
Lunch boxes will be kept on your child's peg in the cloakroom and the children will place their snack box and drink bottle in our class snack boxes when they come into class every morning. Please ensure all items are clearly labelled and if your child is having packed lunch, please can snacks be kept separate?
PE will be on a Tuesday (starting 7th September) and, for the moment, children will still come in to school wearing their PE kits. PE will be outside whenever possible so please choose kit appropriate to the weather e.g. tracksuit bottoms or shorts, jacket or hoodie where necessary.
This week looks like it could be very hot. Please ensure that your child has a sun hat and that sun cream is applied before coming into school every day.
We will send out any further information and what we will be learning this term by the end of the first week.
Have a lovely Sunday, enjoying the glorious sunshine we have been promised. Remember to get an early night, ready for our first day together on Monday. I am looking forward to seeing you all again and starting our Year 4 journey together.

Today is your child's last day in Caerau, and my last day as their class teacher.
Honestly, I will miss your children very much, not just as individuals but more as the little community we have built together over the last year and the memories we have made. Spring term took us by surprise when we entered back into Lockdown, but the children showed their maturity and resilience and continued to produce work to a very high standard, even though lessons were being taught online. We have thrown our classroom door open and welcomed a number of pupils to our class community this year too, which has been lovely.
I am incredibly grateful for the support and patience you have shown me this year and I am thankful for trusting me to 'borrow' your children for a year and teach them. We may have had another slightly different, rather disrupted school year, but your children are still the best and always will be!
You should all be very proud.
Thank you so much for all the cards, gifts and kind words. It's not very often I am speechless, but I have been this week. You are all so kind.
Have a wonderful, wonderful summer.
It's over and out for me!
See you in September
Mrs B

As our end product for this topic, the pupils wanted to write their own campfire song and create a music video. They have been working hard on these over the last few weeks and weather permitting, we are hoping to record them on Tuesday and Wednesday. Please can the pupils come to school in casual clothes on these days that will fit with their music video? Once the videos are recorded, we will share them with you via j2e.

Yay, it looks like summer has arrived! I hope you all had a lovely half term and managed to get out and about in the beautiful sun. I can't wait to hear what you have been up to tomorrow morning.
Well, we are entering the last half term in Caerau. How did that happen? We have got the last push to go and lots of work to complete within the next 6 weeks, but I am really looking forward to it.
As the weather is getting warmer, please ensure you have a water bottle in school with you daily as well as putting on your sun cream before you come to school. British weather isn't the best, so please bring a coat if the weather forecast doesn't look great. PE kit is to be worn to school every Friday this half term.
See you in the morning.

Where have the last 7 weeks gone? I have loved being back in the classroom with my favourite little people. We have loved getting stuck in to our topic 'Together Stronger' and have learnt lots of new skills already. I am looking forward to watching the children transfer their poetry skills after half term, to write a comp fire song. However, I think we are all ready for a short break now and to recharge our batteries for the final half term of they year. Fingers crossed that the weather will improve and we can all manage to have a little bit of normality this holiday.

Summer Term - Wythnos 1 - 12th April 2021
I hope you have all had a great Easter holidays and managed to relax and enjoy some family time.
Well, I can't quite believe we are entering the Summer term already. This year has flown, but as the saying goes 'time flies when you are having fun!' I am looking forward to getting stuck in to our new topic 'Together Stronger'. The children have decided that they would like to learn about survival skills during this topic, through working together. This could be fun! At the end of the term, they are going to be writing, and recording their own campfire song and creating their own music video. Keep your eyes peeled, as I will be sharing these with you at the end of the term.
On Monday the 12th of April, please can the children wear dark tracksuit bottoms/leggings and trainers to school, with their school uniform top. They will also need a waterproof coat. Fingers crossed that the weather will be kind to us, and we can kick start the topic down the forest.
PE days this term will be every Friday. On a Friday pupils will need to wear their PE kit to school and bring a water bottle too. They are going to be working together to play team games.
This term we will be combining all the new skills that we learnt during Distance Learning, with what we do best in class. This means that your child will need to complete some Homework tasks at home before they can complete work in class. They will find these on j2homeowrk. Please can you support your child with completing these tasks. The first task will be set on Monday. They will need to have completed this before they can complete one of their afternoon tasks independently. Thank you for your support.
I can't wait to see all the pupils on Monday morning, so we can catch up on what they have been getting up to over the Easter holidays, find out how they have been getting on with their sponsored read and start our new topic. Drop off times and locations will remain the same as before Easter.
See you Monday morning.
Mrs B
Wythnos 12 - Wythnos olaf
Well, we have nearly made it. It has been a very strange term, but we have learnt lots of new skills, and I am so glad we have managed to get back in the class together before the holidays.
Please can pupils wear PE kit to school on Wednesday this week. After Easter, we will have a set day. I will send further information in the new term.
Easter Sponsored Read
As part of our school vision to encourage the children to immerse themselves in reading for enjoyment, we have decided to do a Sponsored Read during the Easter break. The money raised will help to fund the expansion of our school library,.
At the end of the week, we will be sharing the Sponsor form and explanation of how to engage your child in the Readathon!!
The documents will be shared via the J2e for your child's class on the HWB platform that we used during the Online Learning. Paper copies are available if you need them, please let me know.
You can choose how you would like to sponsor your child, either an amount per minute/hour/chapter/book or you could have fun trying to get a line or a house using the Bingo Reading Card that is also in the folder.
The child who raises the most sponsorship money will receive a prize of a new book!!!
I hope you all have a lovely Easter holiday, and I hope the weather is kind to us all. Have fun!
Mrs B
A great start to the week
It has been wonderful to see most of the children back in class over the last two days. We had lots of nervous and anxious children at the beginning of both days, but after a long discussion and reassurance the children were all happy leaving school on both days. They have assured me, that they are excited to come back tomorrow, to see the rest of the class. It has been so lovely to see them, catch up, discuss how much they have grown and today we talked about happy dreams that we look forward to when we get back to 'normal'.
Don't forget that PE kit needs to be worn to school tomorrow. I can't wait to see you all in the morning.
Mrs Black.
Wythnos 11 - 15th of March
After 10 weeks of Distance Learning we are finally going to be back in the class with each other next week, and I can't wait! I am looking forward to seeing all your happy faces and catching up with what you have been getting up to in Lockdown. I am sure you will have lots of news to tell me.
I want to say a HUGE thank you to both children and parents for all the hard work that has been completed in Lockdown since Christmas. As a working mum of two, I know it's not easy. I really appreciate the time and effort that you have put in to every piece of work that you have completed and this will definitely benefit the children when they return next week. Thank you for all the kind emails I have received over the last few weeks, I really appreciate them too. They have made me smile, some have even made me shed a few tears, but most of all they have made me a very proud teacher and I feel honoured to be your child's teacher.

On Sunday 21st of March it is World Down Syndrome Day. As a school, we always raise awareness of this day, and this year is no different. On Friday 19th of March we are asking that all pupils come to school wearing 'lots of socks', crazy socks or maybe mismatched socks. Let's get people talking about Down Syndrome!
Please ensure that pupils have a coat in school with them every day and a substantial, healthy snack to eat at break time.
Enjoy your weekend and I can't wait to see you next week!

Spring 2021
This term our whole school topic is 'Love Where You Live'. In our class, we have decided to look at the Welsh Coal Mines in greater depth, as part of this topic. We will be finding our more about the coal mines in Wales, writing a persuasive leaflet to encourage people to visit a coal mine and designing and making a tram. In Science, we will be looking at forces and how we can use a Newton meter to measure the force of a tram carrying different amounts of coal. Our Welsh topics are 'Salwch' (Illness) and 'Chwaraeon' (Sport). We will continue to learn these skills through distance learning, but I am keeping everything crossed that we will return to school before Easter, so we can share the amazing work that has already been completed this term so far.
Helo a chroeso i Caerau!
Welcome to the new class page for Caerau. This is where you will find new information about your child's class. I will update the class page regularly and will post my weekly update, every Sunday on here from now on. I look forward to sharing all the exciting new updates, so you can find out more about what your child is getting up to in class.
